The Story behind RENTO

After spending years living comfortably and accumulating things, I reached a turning point. As an environmentalist, I was always aware of the impact we have on the planet, but it wasn’t until I decided to resign from my job and set off on a backpacking adventure that a wave of realization hit me.

I had to pack my life into just 7 kilograms for the journey ahead. Suddenly, I saw all the unnecessary items I had collected over the years, and with that awareness came a profound question: What do we really need? I took only the essentials, embracing uncertainty and setting out on an open ended trip around the world, carrying just what I needed on my back.

It was when I arrived in South Korea that the seed for Rento was truly planted. I had a dream to cycle across the country, but I lacked the resources and money to make it happen. With little hope, I posted in a few Facebook groups, sharing my story and asking if anyone had a spare bicycle they could lend. To my surprise, within a day, two people responded. Not only did I receive one bicycle I had two! It was a simple yet profound moment that showed me the openness and kindness of humanity. Complete strangers shared what they weren’t using, allowing me to embark on a journey I couldn’t have done alone.

This experience revealed the incredible power of sharing resources that would otherwise sit idle. I completed my trip, returned the bicycles, and carried with me a deep sense of gratitude and inspiration. The realization that sharing could open doors, create connections, and reduce waste stayed with me.

The Birth of Rento

For People and the Planet

That’s how the idea for Rento came to life. I knew this was something much larger than myself it was a way to connect people across the world, giving them the opportunity to borrow, lend, rent, or give away items they don’t need. It’s not just about saving money or getting access to things; it’s about reducing our environmental footprint and embracing a more sustainable, circular lifestyle.

Rento is about more than items t’s about sharing experiences, building trust, and fostering a community that values conscious consumption. I saw firsthand the impact that sharing could have, not just on an individual’s journey, but on the collective journey towards a more sustainable world.

Now, Rento exists to make that same kindness, openness, and circularity accessible to everyone. Whether it’s borrowing a bicycle for an adventure or lending your camping gear to someone embarking on theirs, Rento empowers people to live lighter, more connected lives.

Together, we can rethink ownership, reduce waste, and create a more sustainable future one shared item, and one shared experience at a time.

Our mission

At Rento, our intention is to foster a community that embraces conscious consumption and sustainable living. We believe that by sharing resources, we can significantly reduce waste, promote circularity, and make a positive impact on our planet. Our goal is to create a platform where individuals can connect, share, and borrow items, transforming idle possessions into valuable resources for others.

We understand that many people have items in their homes that they may not use frequently but still hold value. By facilitating the sharing of these items, we empower individuals to give their belongings a purpose without the need to sell or dispose of them. Our mission is to inspire a cultural shift towards mindful consumption, where sharing becomes a way of life.

Our vision

Imagine a world where every resource is utilized to its fullest potential, leaving nothing to waste. In this world, people share more and buy less, contributing to a circular economy where items live longer, have more value, and reduce environmental impact. It’s a world where communities thrive on trust, connection, and collaboration, fostering a sustainable lifestyle that benefits both people and the planet.

Rento envisions a future where ownership is redefined, and the joy of sharing resources becomes a new normal, shaping a collective well being for all. Together, we can create a society where nothing goes unused, and every action reflects a commitment to sustainability and conscious living.

Why We Do What We Do

Through Rento, we aim to cultivate kindness, community, and sustainability, making it easier for everyone to access the items they need while minimizing their environmental footprint. Together, we can create a brighter, more sustainable future for ourselves and generations to come.
